Ground has been broken at the site of the Melfort Liquor Loft.
The outlet will be located at the StoneGate Shopping Center on Highway 6 south.
Owner Trent Zwingli told northeastNOW the contractor hopes to have the building completed by October 31.
“Once the building is completed, they will hand over the keys and then we can do our stocking of it,” Zwingli said. “We are hoping to be open for business sometime in the middle of November.”
On top of liquor, the loft will also carry confectionary items, mix, ice, assorted cheese, and Big Bob’s Meats.
“He (Big Bob) is out of Regina but is originally from Arborfield and so many in these parts know him for his famous Polish sausage, ham sausage, garlic sausage so we will be handling that also at our store,” Zwingli said.
The building will not just be a traditional liquor store with a ‘loft’ geared toward Christmas parties, staff parties, small weddings, etc.
“It has an occupancy of 150 people maximum so it will be a laid-back, comfortable area overlooking the Melfort Golf Course,” Zwingli said.
The loft will be located on the balcony of the store with its own private entrance.
When it comes to opening up a new business in the midst of a pandemic, Zwingli doesn’t seem to be too concerned at the moment.
“Some businesses are bound and some have actually truly, remarkably have done really well during the COVID pandemic,” Zwingli said. “I mean COVID is here now but it won’t be here forever so we are just going along with it.”
Zwingli added they will post progress updates on their social media pages.
