As COVID-19 surges across the province, residents in the northeast are looking for ways to socialize and stay active.
Various clubs, leagues and activities are happening across the city of Melfort offering people the opportunity to enjoy the sports they love with the people they care most about.
For those looking for a way to kick start their day, Aquafitness classes are offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Participants hoping to catch an evening class and join the Deep Water Aquafit group on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Classes are $8 each or 12 and 24 class punch cards are available.
Moms with small children can join baby boats, an AquaFit class that allows parents to have their children with them while they are active. The fee is $10 a class and signing up is strongly recommended as space is limited to 10 sign-ups.
People wanting to break a sweat in the afternoon can join the Melfort Pickleballers for their afternoon drop-in sessions from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The fee is $4 and all players must provide proof of vaccination.
Cardio lovers can visit the Northern Lights Palace for REFIT, a dance-inspired program that doesn’t require you to know how to dance. Although classes are currently full, there will be opportunities for courses in the future.
Those passionate about volleyball can join the recreational group. Sunday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Kerry Vickar Centre players come together as a team to showcase their skills. The drop-in fee is $7 and is open to groups and single players.
Groups of friends can come together and enjoy the Melfort Bowling Alley. Bowling is open to the public whenever league play is not in session. Regular bowling is $34 an hour for a lane that can host up to six players. Glow bowling is $39 an hour for six players.
Bowlers hoping to join a league can contact the bowling alley to be placed on a team. Leagues run on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. The cost to join a league is $11.75 a week. The alley also offers 55+ play on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1:30 for $10.50.
Golfers can now enjoy the sport any time of year at Duffer’s with the golfing simulator available for $35 an hour. Each simulator can host up to four people and can be rented out between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m.
Women wanting to enjoy a night out with friends while supporting a good cause can enjoy the Ladies for TeleMiracle Funspiel on Feb 19. Twenty dollars a person will get you three games of curling. The evening will also feature a silent auction and prizes for best dress as well as for the teams who come in first, second and last.
