The staff at the Melfort Food Bank are disheartened after thieves made off with boxes of meat.
Secretary and volunteer Ellen Zuck has a message for whoever took the food intended for clients of the food bank.
“If they had needed help or food or meat, all they would have had to do was ask us, we would have shared what we have,” Zuck said. “You don’t have to just take it. That’s what we do, we hand out food and we certainly would have helped.”
Between Friday night and Sunday, about five boxes of meat were taken from the loading dock of the building.
The theft has been reported to the Melfort RCMP.
“Sometimes we struggle to get meat and we just happen to have this bountiful of meat and someone comes along and just takes it, it is very disheartened,” Zuck said.
The boxes were out on the dock while supplies were being organized and moved around in the food bank and it was cold enough for it to be outside.
The Melfort Food Bank is hoping to replace the food through donations and help is always needed in a volunteer capacity as well.
“I want to thank the people of Melfort for their support because I know they will support us through this too when the word gets out that this has happened,” Zuck said.
