A Melfort family is vlogging their experiences in the community after moving from the Philippines.
Adi and Dia Belandre have created the YouTube channel ‘DiAdi Family’, which is a combination of their names, showcasing their unique experiences in the Northeast.
Dia was the first to make Canada their new home.
“I first moved here to Canada in 2014 with my family,” she said. “My mom, my dad, and my three other siblings.”
The pair was already in a relationship at that time. After a few years of long-distance dating, they decided to tie the knot and make Melfort the place to raise their family.
The channel ended up starting when Dia was pregnant with the couple’s first child, Omi. They wanted to document their special experiences with family members back home.
“What inspired us to do vlogging, first and foremost, our family, the family that we are building, and also inspire us to like share it with our family back in the Philippines,” Dia said.
From the first time Omi rode the school bus to navigating the icy roads in the community, she explained the Northeast community has made it easy for them to feel at home.
“People here are very welcoming and they’re very supportive. What happens is, you get to know each other.”
The family still has struggles in the community. This includes a language barrier, but more specifically, the extreme weather difference.
“The Philippines is a tropical country and it’s really hot there,” she said. “So when we got here in July, we already felt like it’s chilly already.”
Although the winter quickly lost its magic once the couple got here, Adi said their families back home admire it when the frost hits.
Meanwhile, they hope that those who enjoy their videos can smile along with their triumphs and new experiences as they remind viewers that regardless of location, family triumphs all.
