The North East SPCA (NESPCA) is helping you get back at your crappy ex.
For just $5 you can have your ex-partner’s first name written at the bottom of a cat litter box. Once the box has enough names, litter will go into the box and all cats at the shelter will be able to use it.
NESPCA Kennel Manager Kate Jacobs told northeastNOW that although this fundraiser is lighthearted the money raised goes to finding animals their forever home.
“We have 27 kittens in our care right now. We currently have 46 cats in total and 10 dogs. We are also the pound for five communities, so we have to have room for our pound animals.”
The shelter is currently at capacity, but staff and volunteers are looking for foster homes, so they are able to welcome more animals who need a place to go.
Jacobs explained that now is a peak time when animals are often dumped, and the shelter is feeling the pressure.
“Usually in February and October, we see quite an influx for some reason. The summer has been crazy. We’ve had numerous cats come in that are pregnant and then we try to get them looked at by a vet and you come in the next day and there’s babies.”
The shelter is also hoping to raise funds through this campaign to support ongoing medical and daily operations.
Although the shelter operates with a strict budget and heavily relies on volunteers, Jacobs said there are still costs associated with running a shelter.
“We still have to feed them; we still have to vet them, and we have to make sure you know that they’re taken care of before they go to a home. So it does cost us a lot of money.”
Jacobs thanks the community for their continued support, donations, and volunteer hours but stresses that they are always accepting additional help.
“We are still needing community support. I know we had a lot of support through COVID but we’re still needing support.”
