The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party has named a new candidate for their Kelvington-Wadena constituency.
Lorne Schroeder was nominated by his Sask NDP members earlier this week, to run in the next provincial election.
“I am honoured to be the Saskatchewan NDP candidate in Kelvington-Wadena. The future of our province is so bright and we need a government that will ensure the best future for my family, your family, and everyone in Saskatchewan,” Schroeder said.
“I’ve been raised with the common good, helping neighbours out, and we need to really promote that and get back to that because that’s the spirit of Saskatchewan. That’s what I was raised with and that’s what is so good about Saskatchewan people,” he told northeastNOW
Schroeder is a lifelong farmer from the Leroy area, who has the agriculture industry consistently coursing through his veins.
He’s also passionate about small communities, and seeing them survive and flourish.
“Saskatchewan has 50 per cent of the cultivated land in Canada, so there is a huge agriculture industry here. There are a lot of opportunities coming our way for agriculture to take advantage of economically and we don’t want to be on the outside looking in, we want to be a part of that. We know that one dollar spent in agriculture returns nine times,” Schroeder added.
“I’m a small farmer and small farms are dropping day by day, but we have survived because we’ve been innovative and we know how to stretch dollars. I think I could bring that experience of being frugal, spending money wisely to get the best returns that we can, and just practical, everyday common sense and decision-making, that’s grassroots-based.”
In the past, Schroeder has served as the Reeve for the RM of LeRoy, the board of the Farmer Direct Co-op, and the LeRoy School Board Chair.
The 70-year-old is also a big family man, as he and his wife Theresa have five children and 11 grandchildren.
“I am so happy to have a community-minded candidate like Lorne here in Kelvington-Wadena,” explained Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck.
“His experience as an organic beef farmer and years of service to his community shows me Lorne will truly do what is best for his community. I know that the people of Kelvington-Wadena would be extremely well served with Lorne as their MLA.”
Schroeder also has previous experience as the Saskatchewan NDP candidate for Melfort, back in the 2018 By-Election and the 2020 Provincial Election.
He is the twenty-ninth candidate nominated for the Saskatchewan NDP.
