A close call for home owners in Nipawin.
The Nipawin Fire Department was called to a home just after 4:30 a.m. Monday after a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm was triggered.
The department said on social media that their monitors immediately picked up trace amounts of CO on the main floor, increasing to a full warning status in the basement.
The home was ventilated with a positive pressure fan to clear the air and reduce the carbon monoxide levels.
A SaskEnergy inspection indicated a problem with venting and exhausting from natural gas appliances.
Thankfully – and wisely – the home owners decided to call 9-1-1 and wait outside the home.
The fire department said prolonged exposure to CO levels that high could have led to serious illness.
