The Centennial Arena in Nipawin will have an updated look in the near future.
The Town of Nipawin has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a new full-colour LED outdoor billboard at the arena.
“The initial billboard was installed in 2010 so it was quite a few years ago,” General Manager of Leisure Services Chelsea Corrigan told northeastNOW. “It has started to show signs of failure.”
Corrigan said one of the motherboards for the current sign failed a couple of years ago. The motherboard was obsolete and it had to be replaced, and rebuilt, at a facility in Texas.
“Another part of the sign now has failed, it’s another part of the motherboard,” explained Corrigan. “We are going to replace the sign just to be more financially responsible.”
The cost to operate and repair the current sign continues to increase, Corrigan said, and because it’s obsolete it needs to be fully replaced. The town is looking to replace the sign with something that is more modern, and one that can have more pictures. Corrigan said they may also have advertising on the sign in the future.
The RFP closes Aug. 27, and Corrigan hopes to have a recommendation put forward to council at their Sept. 9 meeting. The goal is to have a company hired shortly after that and have the sign installed and operational before Christmas. Corrigan said the project was approved in the 2024 budget.
Companies interested in bidding for the supply and installation of the sign can contact Chelsea at town hall, and other options are also detailed on the RFP.
