An emotional Elton John fought back tears as he discussed his family while taking questions after the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Elton John: Never Too Late.
The film, co-directed by R.J. Cutler and Elton’s husband David Furnish, looks at his career from his first Dodger Stadium concert in October, 1975 to his final U.S. show there on November 20th, 2022.
Elton told the crowd at Roy Thomson Hall that “On my tombstone, I don’t want it to say he sold a million records. I want it to say he was a great dad and great husband.”
He began tearing up as he said, “The thing I love about this movie is that I have him [Furnish] and my two sons. I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved. I hope to keep making music, but I want to be home and treasure them. Having a number-one album is really nice for five minutes, but this is a lifetime.” (Variety)
