The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation will host the 39th annual induction ceremony this Saturday at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, home to the Hall of Fame and muesum. To be eligible, artists are required to have released their first record 25 years prior to Induction.
Those elected for induction in the following categories are:
Performer Category: artists who have created music whose originality, impact, and influence has changed the course of rock & roll. Five first time nominees were elected, and the complete list, In alphabetical order, is as follows:
- Mary J. Blige – second nomination
- Cher – first nomination
- Dave Matthews Band – second nomination & winner of Fan Vote
- Foreigner – first nomination
- Peter Frampton – first nomination
- Kool & the Gang – first nomination
- Ozzy Osbourne – first nomination
- A Tribe Called Quest – third nomination
Musical Influence Award: artists whose music and performance style have directly influenced, inspired, and evolved rock & roll and music impacting youth culture.
- Alexis Korner – deceased
- John Mayall
- Big Mama Thornton – deceased
Musical Excellence Award: given to artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence creating music have had a dramatic impact on music.
- Jimmy Buffett – deceased
- MC5 – nominated six times
- Dionne Warwick – nominated twice
- Norman Whitfield – deceased
Ahmet Ertegun Award: given to non-performing industry professionals who have had a major influence on the creative development and growth of rock & roll and music that has impacted youth culture.

Here’s a list of Saturday’s performers and presenters:
Slash, Sammy Hagar, Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith will honor Foreigner, who are also slated to perform. Hagar will also induct them.
The Who‘s Roger Daltrey will induct Peter Frampton, and Keith Urban will perform with Frampton and his band.
Dua Lipa will perform Cher who will be inducted by Zendaya.
James Taylor will join Kenny Chesney and Mac McAnally in celebrating the late Jimmy Buffett, who’s getting a Musical Excellence Award. JT will induct him.
Julia Roberts, who starred in the music video for 2005’s “Dreamgirl,” will induct Dave Matthews Band.
English R&B singer Ella Mai will perform with inductee Mary J. Blige. She will be inducted by Dr. Dre and Method Man.
Other honorees scheduled to take the stage are Kool & the Gang and Musical Excellence Award winner Dionne Warwick. Chuck D will induct Kool & the Gang, and Teyana Taylor will do the honors for Dionne.
A Tribe Called Quest will be inducted by comedian Dave Chappelle.
And other performers include Busta Rhymes, Lucky Daye, and The Roots.
The other honorees are Alexis Korner, John Mayall and Big Mama Thornton, all of whom will posthumously receive the Musical Influence Award. MC5 and Norman Whitfield are the other artists who will get the Musical Excellence Award.
The show will stream live on Disney+ starting at 7 p.m. ET. A three hour highlights show will air on ABC on New Year’s Day.
