A Nipawin business owner is looking to bring another view to town council if elected in the upcoming municipal election.
Stacey Vik, the owner of Vik Construction in Nipawin, said he wants to act on the best interests of voters.
“I’m promising just to do what I said to do,” he said. “That I’m going to act in honesty and integrity for the citizens of Nipawin, and that’s all I can do.”
Vik has lived in Nipawin for all but two years of his life and in that time has been part of the Nipawin Fire Department for 20 years, coached minor ball and hockey, and has been on the Chase the Ace committee since its inception in Nipawin.
If elected, Vik told northeastNOW he’d like to help grow the business community in Nipawin to help build a broader tax base.
“If they’re a new business, I’d like welcome them, and make it as easy a transition as possible,” Vik said. “Being, trying to find land for them, or directing them in the right way to get permits and so on and so forth, that’s all I can promise, that’s all I can do.”
He also added that local support for businesses is huge for him because the busier businesses are, the more staff that will be needed, which leads to more money going into the community.
Being a business owner, Vik said he hopes to join council and bring business knowledge to the chambers.
“I realize its government, it’s not business when you get into town council,” he said. “But I do believe that I can bring a few views to maybe help them think more business-minded perhaps.”
Vik added that he wants to make sure something positive comes out of the election.
Voters head to the polls on Nov. 9.
