Residents of the Arborfield Special Care Lodge were evacuated on Tuesday morning.
The Arborfield Fire Department was dispatched to what was suspected to be a gas leak in the building. However, upon investigation, it was revealed that a chemical reaction in the laundry room was the cause for concern.
Fire chief Chet Edwards told northeastNOW that the department helped evacuate the residents to the town hall as the residents waited for the green light to return.
“Just alarming, but also a good practice,” Edwards said. “And it’s always good to do that with those places in town so everybody is on the same page in case there was a real emergency.”
There were no injuries as part of the incident and Edwards gave credit to the staff at the Arborfield Special Care Lodge for their work.
“Staff at the Arborfield care home did a ten out of ten job,” he said.
