Shoppers Drug Mart in Melfort made a recent donation to the maternal unit at the Melfort Hospital.
The Love You program that focuses on putting women’s health first brought in $2,158 this year.
Pharmacy Owner Darin Banadyga said the funds came in through customer and staff donations.
“With COVID, we weren’t able to get out and do our normal community outreach due to restrictions so it put a bit of a damper on it,” Banadyga said. “Still a pretty nice number with those restrictions in place, we did quite well.”
The local store tends to alternate their donations each year between the hospital and North East Outreach and Support Services.
“All of the funds we make locally, we get to donate locally,” Banadyga said. “We find our customers are very giving and get behind the charity that we have so definitely a huge appreciation to all who donate.”
The funds complete the fundraising for a colposcope which is used to diagnose specific types of female cancers.
Customers were asked to make donations at the checkout in the store. There were different levels of support available, the purchase of a leaf was $1, $10 for an apple or $50 for a bird. They are then displayed in the window of the store.
