Metallica‘s “Enter Sandman” has the most misheard lyrics, according to a new survey conducted by Wordfinder.
The survey had 1000 Americans listen to snippets of various tracks and then asked them to choose the correct lyrics out of a list of four phrases.
70% of listeners misheard the “Enter Sandman” lyrics ‘Exit light / Enter night.” They believed that the words were “Eggs and light / End all nights.” And it’s a cross-generational thing, as it was mostly misheard by Generation X, Millennials and Generation Z.
Other highly misinterpreted songs included Of Monsters and Men‘s “Little Talks” (61% heard the lyrics incorrectly), The Beatles‘ “I Want to Hold Your Hand” (52%), Kings of Leon‘s “Sex on Fire” (52%), Nirvana‘s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (51%), Adele‘s “Chasing Pavements” (51%) Queen‘s “Bohemian Rhapsody “(49%) and Bon Jovi‘s “Living on a Prayer” (42%).
